Learn the words, not just the letters
Part the hair carefully and remember the hairline and scalp when carrying out an appropriate check.
Remember areas such as armpits, the waist and behind the knees while respecting privacy and age-appropriate support.
Check around waistbands, sock lines, footwear and other clothing edges where a small tick may be harder to notice.
A mirror or trusted helper can assist with places that are difficult to see. Children should involve a trusted grown-up.
Remember: Most tick bites do not result in illness, but a small number of ticks may carry germs, including those associated with Lyme disease. Tick awareness means using calm, sensible habits.
