Distribution

First verified Peru record supplemented prior South American records from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Presence, established populations, habitat suitability and disease risk are distinct evidence categories.

Medical and veterinary relevance

Rickettsia amblyommatis and R. bellii were detected in A. longirostre from porcupines in Bahia; detection does not prove transmission or pathogenicity.

The host review found few domestic-vertebrate records and considered its rickettsiosis vector role undetermined.
